How to Move with Pets

December 11th, 2014

Are you moving with pets? Sometimes this can be quite a challenge; here are some tips on how to move your pets in a pet-friendly way!

Prior to Moving Day:

The safest practice when moving your pet is to use a crate; a lot of owners don’t use crates for their pets, so putting your cat or small dog in a crate for the first time can be quite the shock for your little animal. So we, after referring to ASPCA, recommend introducing your pets to their new crates weeks in advance to moving day; come moving day, your pets will be familiar with the crate, saving you a car ride free of whining!

On Moving Day:

When moving day arrives you should follow these tips to ensure a smooth transportation for you and your pet:

  • Take your dog for a walk right before you begin to travel to the new location; you don’t want to have to clean up a mistake inside your car!
  • Also make sure your pets’ tags are updated with an address and your contact information just in case they get lose, especially if it is a house cat.
  • Be sure to bring a portable water bowl and some yummy treats. You should also consider packing some toys too, especially if you’re moving puppies or kittens; it’ll help keep them busy!
  • If you’re traveling far, and you’re going to be staying at a hotel, make sure the place you are staying at is pet friendly.
